End of November our Grade 5 undertook a field trip to the Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop (CeTI). This trip connected with our current unit of inquiry into How The World Works where we have been investigating scientific advancements and the impact these advancements have on society.
At CeTI, students heard from leading scientists about the current research involving the tactile internet in the areas of medicine, industry, and skill development. They were also fortunate enough to meet and interact with two different robots. The first was named Spot, a four-legged robot capable of moving over a variety of terrains and used for a variety of functions including exploration, security, and inspections. The students even got to "feed" Spot a bone! The second robot was a humanoid called Ameca who is capable of engaging in a conversation and has realistic facial expressions. Asking Ameca questions was a highlight for many students and they were amazed at how it was able to respond to them in English and German.
