We are raising funds for our Campus Greening Project, The concept was developed collaboratively between DIS students, who provided ideas for improvement of the schoolyard, and a student at the Technical University Dresden.
The project aims to:
- reduce campus heat retention as a climate mitigation strategy
- provide opportunities for sustainability education and active learning
- increase campus biodiversity
- increase access to green spaces and areas for relaxation.
The project will include removing areas of asphalt to plant directly in our schoolyard, facade greening, and raised planters for student participation and service learning. This will be done in phases.
Our schoolyard has been a construction site since the fall break (Oct 2024). The first phase of our campus greening project is officially underway! During the fall break, the asphalt was removed, and the ground was prepared for a greener, cooler, and more sustainable space for our school community.
In November we planted 15 trees, shrubs and other low plants, furthering our mission to make the campus a more relaxing, climate-conscious environment. In addition, all trees worth 20,000 Euros were donated.
Our first sub-project was officially completed and handed over on 11 December 2024. We are delighted that the new space can now be used by the students.
This incredible initiative would not be possible without the generous support of our families, foundations, and corporate partners. THANK YOU to all who have supported the project so far!
The various sub-projects cost between 40,000 and 150,000 Euros, some of which can be subsidized by the SAB (Sächsische Aufbaubank). So far we have a pledged an amount of 85,000 EUR from our community. This incredible initiative would not be possible without the generous support of our families, foundations, and corporate partners. THANK YOU to all who have supported the project so far!
Support us! Let's bring this project to life!
