From November 11 until 15, we celebrated the German Read-Aloud-Day. On Monday we welcomed actor and presenter Malte Arkona, known from the TV Show "Beste Klasse Deutschlands", and his wife actress Anna-Maria Arkona. They read excerpts from the children’s book “Die Sneakers – Einer spielt falsch” (Hasselbusch & Grotthof) to our Grade 5 students in the library. Reading stimulates the imagination and promotes language development and literacy. Around 78 percent of children who were read to several times a week or daily find learning to read easy (Vorlesestudie 2018 by Stiftung Lesen, DIE ZEIT und Deutsche Bahn Stiftung). A very special thank you to Malte Arkona and Anna-Maria Arkona for showing them how much fun reading is!
To show how important reading is Secondary School students visited our Grades 1 - 4 and read stories in a variety of languages, such as Hindi, English, German, Korean and Spanish. This is a great opportunity for the MYP students to show their reading skills and inspire PYP students.
